Cooking & Food

Cakes! If we had to name one single biggest contributing factor towards people’s happiness on these expeditions it would have to be good food!  So before we leave we will stock our vehicle with all the basics that we are probably not going to find when we are on the road. Believe me, a tin of English baked beans is worth it's weight in gold sometimes!

Fresh veg from the marketFresh food is usually available daily, whether it be in the form of a supermarket or a live animal. We try and eat meat and fresh vegetables every day (as well as catering for vegetarians).  We can not however cater for fussiness! In these group situations, everybody must appreciate we can not cater for individual likes and dislikes.  We strive to make all our meals as tasty, nutritious and healthy as possible.

Pig on a spitWhen it comes to shopping and cooking we will divide ourselves up into groups of 3 or 4 people (depending on group size) who will shop for and prepare the days meals and clean up at the end. This will work out that you roughly get to cook once a week (depending on numbers).

A specially designed EOE recipe book will be provided with a range of meals that are suitable for overland cooking I.E. the types of food that is available and affordable, cooking for groups, cooking on fires etc. to give you a helping hand.

Hygiene plays a very important role throughout all of our expeditions and your crew will keep a close eye on things to ensure this throughout the entire time as well as being there for advice with cooking etc. when required.

When we are in cities or hotels it is often impractical to cook on the truck so we do not provide meals during these times. When we are camping we usually eat 2 meals a day from our truck (they are normally breakfast and the evening meal).
Note.  There will be the odd occasion where we camp in cities where cooking is not practical, so meals will not be included over these periods, like wise breakfast is sometimes included when staying in hotels and hostels.

We really believe you should not only see a country but taste it too and roasting a succulent pig or lamb over an open spit on a beach is definitely on the list of things to do!
